Google Music App on Android at Home Google TV

Google Music announced that their service is opening up to a broader audience and that it will integrate with the music store on Android Market to make music discovery, purchase, and sharing easy and fast.

And they have also launched the Google Music App for Google TV.

The app syncs with your Google Music account in the cloud, so there is no need to stream from a computer or download songs to the TV. Simply download the Google Music app for Google TV from Android Blog Market, login with your account, and enjoy your entire music library through your HDTV and home theater system. Google Music for Google TV plays in the background while you enjoy other apps on your Google TV.  You can add a custom soundtrack to slideshows from the Photos app, you can enjoy your favorite tunes while surfing the web, or you can just add some mood music while you peruse the latest news headlines, all from the comfort of your couch. To get you started on Music, visit music.google.com on your computer, sign-up for the free service, upload your music to the cloud or buy music on the Android Market. Once finished, you can play all of your tracks on Google TV the same way as you can do on your computer, phone or tablet.

Google X Android at Home

What is technology about? Well obviously that question can have several answers, none of which would be incorrect, but at its heart it’s there as a whole to solve problems. To make our lives easier than they would be if we were sat around a camp fire sharpening spears and grunting at one another, right?

Well somewhere along the way a lot of that essence was lost, and ever since we’ve been having products that are more or less clones of the last generation being forced upon us from various vendors and very little innovation.

According to reports, though, Google is going back to those roots at its top secret projects lab, mysteriously named Google X. This lab is said to be where the likes of Larry Page and Sergey Brin work on all sorts of weird and wonderful things that could help transform the way we live our lives. The exact location of Google X is obviously unknown to us mere mortals, but according to the reports in the New York Times, it’s somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Search-engine giant Google has a secret product lab called Google X feverishly developing blue-sky projects such as space elevators, driverless cars and internet-enabled household devices which will use Android at Home technology, The New York Times reports.

The labs are reportedly run “as mysteriously as the CIA,” according to unnamed sources familiar with the project, and housed in two facilities – one in California at the company’s headquarters and one in an undisclosed location elsewhere in the country.

“They’re pretty far out in front right now,” Rodney Brooks, a professor emeritus at MIT’s computer science and artificial intelligence lab and founder of Heartland Robotics, told theTimes. “But Google’s not an ordinary company, so almost nothing applies.”

The lab is reported to be filled with robotics engineers, in spite of the software engineers more commonly employed by the company.

But don’t get your hopes up: The types of projects cited aren’t the sort of thing the company will be releasing anytime soon.

Space elevators, for example, are a concept common in science fiction stories and movies. The idea is simple: Ditch the expensive, dangerous rockets for a giant platform that tows anything and everything up a tremendous cable to a platform orbiting at a fixed location around the planet.

Android @ Home

Android @ Home from Google was showcased at the  I/O developer conference.

Android@home will  extend the Android platform into household objects.

That means some day in the future, you could control home appliances — your dishwasher, the heating system, the lights in your house — using your Android device as a remote control.

“Think of your phone as the nucleus that this all started with,” said Google engineering director Joe Britt in an interview. “We’re opening the platform up to everyone to do whatever they can imagine.”

Google explain this in that they have  created a framework to control wireless communication between objects in your house. During a keynote presentation, Britt demonstrated this wireless communication using a Motorola Xoom tablet to control stage lights.

For Google, the Android@Home project is a first step into “the internet of things,” a term used to describe the growing trend of manufacturers producing intelligent, connected objects. Major tech companies like ARM Holdings and Hewlett-Packard have long since been involved in this market place.

This type of wireless communication between devices already exists — commonly networked “smart buildings” often involve temperature monitors and lighting fixtures.

But Google says Android@Home cuts some of the expenses often associated with existing wireless monitoring systems. And according to Google engineering director of hardware Matt Hershenson, the project will open up possibilities of creating smart appliances to developers that otherwise wouldn’t have the chance.
